The peculiar feature of the “Eureka” Scissors' is their curved or rounded blades, the advantage of which enables the user to cut through the thickest material with the greatest ease, the cutting power being many times greater than any other form of scissors in the market. They have nicely-finished nickel-plated shaped bows to fit the fingers, and are made in every variety and size, suitable either for domestic or warehouse use. All sizes and varieties are kept in stock by this firm. While it is beyond the scope of the present sketch to specialise the merits of each department represented, attention may be directed to the two specialties for which Messrs. McPherson are best known. These are Arbenz’s celebrated Mandarin Razors, with interchangeable blades, and the patent “Eureka” Scissors, for both of which the firm are sole agents in Glasgow and district. The failure on the part of a number of much-advertised razors to accomplish the work claimed for them has led the public to a somewhat pardonable conclusion that such a thing as a perfect -razor is not to be found ; but since the introduction of the Mandarin Razors by the inventor of the celebrated Gem Air Guns these have been acknowledged at home and abroad as being as near to perfection as it is possible to attain. Produced from a specially fine brand of English steel, forged very fine throughout and hardened and tempered with great care, the Mandarins possess every qualification that gentlemen accustomed to shave will readily appreciate. They never require grinding, also very little stropping, and, under careful usage, are guaranteed to last a lifetime, giving at all times a luxurious and comfortable shave. A set, of Mandarin Razors with four or seven blades occupies no more space than a single razor, a consideration now-a-days to gentlemen travelling.

Arbenz Adolph(e) Arbenz and his successors, often listed as gunmakers, were
merchants and wholesalers. However, as Arbenz was the communicant
of British Patent 4413/86 of 1886, granted to Flurscheim & Bergmann
(»Eisenwerke Gaggenau), it is clear that Arbenz’s business had attained some
importance. The patent notes the trading address in 1887 as 107 & 108 Great
Charles Street, Birmingham, but a move had been made by 1914 to 33 Ludgate
Hill, Birmingham. Arbenz survived into the post-1945 period, wholesaling
ironmongery, but ceased trading c. 1959. The links with airguns had long since
been severed.

плотников, сапожников, седельников, шорников, черепичников, ножов-

ярмарках в Шампани, служа перевалочным пунктом между Шампанью
и Италией на торговом пути по долине Лу через городок Жунь, где
с купцов взималась пошлина.
